The last semi-annual report Global Economic Prospects, the World Bank has decided to cut its growth forecast of the global economy, estimating for 2016 a GDP growth of 2.9% from 3.3% previously indicated. The World Bank estimates a significant deterioration in the economic conditions of China, with a GDP of 2016 saw an increase of 6.7% from 7% the previous year, the slowest pace since 1990. For next year, however, expected to increase by 6 , 5%, not more than 6.9%. Also revised downwards the forecasts for the euro area, to 1.7% from 1.8%, with economic activity that is “consolidating in Spain”, instead showing “disappointing in Germany”. “Weak though gradually improving” the economy of France and Italy. According to Kaushik Basu, chief economist of the Institute, the world economy could decelerate even further because of “financial stress”.
