It slows the rush to failures of Italian companies: in 11 months, from January to November 2015, bankruptcy proceedings have been opened by companies 12,583, against 13,223 in the same period of 2014. A decrease of 4.8%, which marks a turnaround. The data come from Unioncamere, whose president Ivan Lo Bello has no doubts: “The signal that comes from the slowdown of bankruptcy procedures is certainly positive and confirms that the Italian production system is emerging from the crisis of recent years. It is the best result since the crisis. “

In trade 25.3% of open procedures
The decline recorded in all the main legal forms, except for cooperatives and groups, which recorded a slight increase. The sector that contributes the most in absolute terms, trade (3,186 bankruptcies opened in the eleven months, 25.3% of the total), followed by construction with 2,824 events (22.4%) and manufacturing industry with 2,654 (21 , 1%). Compared to the Italian entrepreneurial structure, which has about 6 million businesses registered in the archives of the Chambers of Commerce, the phenomenon of the openings of insolvency proceedings also concerns a number of very small firms, in the order of 2.1 units per thousand.

For manufacturing and construction breath of fresh air
As for the incidence of the phenomenon – net of areas smaller number of firms – the exposure of firms to risk of failure is higher among the activities of transport and storage (3.6 per thousand existing businesses open procedures). Among the areas to larger ones that the others have pulled a breath of fresh air compared to 2014 were manufacturing (-11.7%) and construction (-10.3%). To worsen the performance of the previous year were, in particular, the business services (+ 9.3%) and the activities of lodging and restaurants (+ 8.6%).

But the decline was limited to 11 regions out of 20
On a regional emerges the picture is more uneven. Out of 20 regions, in fact, the contraction in the opening of new bankruptcies is limited to 11 regions, while in the remaining 9 (in alphabetical order Abruzzo, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Molise, Tuscany, Trentino Alto Adige, Umbria, Valle d’Aosta and Veneto) is scoring increases, albeit to varying degrees. In absolute terms, the region with the highest number of open between January and November is Lombardy (2,633), followed by Lazio (1,461) and Veneto (1162). Even in relative terms (expressed by the ratio of open procedures and number of the resident in the territory), the region with the highest failure rate is Lombardy (2.8 with new procedures every thousand enterprises). Followed by Tuscany (2.5) and Veneto (2.4). On the other side, the regions where this year the failures have less impact on the local business are Basilicata (0.8 per thousand businesses open procedures) Valle d’Aosta (1.2) and Sardinia (1.3 ).
