Air transport: ISTAT; Traffic starts 2014 passengers + 4.7% – BBC

10:07 ROME (Dow Jones) – After two years of declining air traffic again in 2014, recording a significant recovery from the previous year. The passengers increased by 4.7%, cargo and mail by 6.2%, aircraft movements by 1.2%. This was announced by the Mayor, adding that the passengers carried on scheduled flights increased by 5.2%; the increase and ‘more’ content for domestic flights (2.6%) than that recorded for international flights (6.9%). Passengers on charter flights decreased by 6.6%, with an increase in domestic flights (+ 35.9%) and a decline in international ones (-9.1%). Airports that recorded the highest increases in passengers over the previous year are Catania (+ 14.4%, +916,000 passengers), Florence (+ 13.6%, +268,000) and Lamezia Terme (+ 10.5%, + 229,000); those with the greatest declines are Trapani (-14.9% -280,000), Rimini (-15.7% -87,000) and Cuneo (-18.7% -53,000). Continues to decrease the use of national carriers from passengers arrived and departed at Italian airports: the relative share and ‘dropped between 2009 and 2014 from 44.1% to 30.8%. 48.5% of passengers using low-cost (46.4% in 2013), a figure that drops to 15% when considering only Italian airlines (17% in 2013).
