The pharmaceutical company said that the association with the Islamic State had become a distraction unbearable after the bloody bombings claimed worldwide by terrorists Isis, including attacks in Paris on 13 November. “Our goal is to create drugs that will save the lives of patients, and are proud to be at the forefront in the creation of drugs innovatici,” said Lynne Parshall, chief financial officer of the company. “We decided to change the company name because we want that when people hear or see our name, they think of life-saving drugs.”

The pharmaceutical group, which is based in Carlsbad, California, and develops drugs to treat rare diseases, was founded 26 years and chose its name in honor of the goddess Isis (Isis in Italian) , the divinity of motherhood, fertility and magic in Egyptian mythology, also known for its healing properties.
The new name also will land on the Stock Exchange and by 22 December “Ionis” will replace the symbol ‘Isis’ on Nasdaq, the list of technology stocks.
