Istat: October unemployment to 11.5%, its lowest for three years. Occupied -39mila but is booming among those over 50 – Il Sole 24 Ore

In October, the unemployment rate stood at 11.5%, reaching its lowest since nearly three years, or since December 2012 when it was 11.4 percent. This was revealed by Istat, spreading to provisional data on the labor market.

Fewer women over 34 and unemployed
The estimate of the unemployed in October decreased by 0.5% (-13 thousand). The decline affects women and people over the age of 34 years. In the twelve months unemployment decreases of 12.3% (-410 thousand people looking for work) and the unemployment rate by 1.4 points. Salt though youth unemployment (15-24 years), 39.8%, an increase of 0.3 percentage points compared to September. Even in the age group 25-34 years there was an increase in the unemployment rate (0.2 percentage points) to 17 percent.

They increase still inactive

Other negative figure: after growth in September (+ 0.5%), the estimate of inactive people aged 15 to 64 years It increases again last month by 0.2% (+32 thousand inactive persons). But decreases the number of inactive males and under 50 years. The inactivity rate is 36.2%, up 0.1 percentage points on September. Yoy inactivity increases by 1.4% (+196 thousand inactive persons) and the inactivity rate by 0.6 percentage points.

Declining employed: -39mila on September
In October there was a further decline, the second in a row, those employed on a monthly basis, a decrease of 39 thousand units compared to September (-0.2%). The decline, says Istat, is determined “by the independent” (-44mila, -0.8%), which include the self-employed. On an annual basis instead employment grows: +75 thousand persons (+ 0.3%). The employment rate fell by 0.1 percentage points to stand at 56.3 percent. On an annual basis instead of growing 0.4 points.

Occupied 50+: + 900 thousand in three years
It deserves to be reported the figure for employees over 50: in the last three years there has been an almost constant growth of employees (+ 13.9%), equal to about + 900 thousand between January 2013 and October 2015. It weighs an aging population but more interventions that have stretched the age to retire.
