All negative data on trade in July 2014 According to Istat, retail sales marked a “mild contraction” (- 0.1%) compared to the previous month. Compared to July 2013, the raw index of the total value of sales drops instead of 1.5%. Negative annual variations are recorded for both sales of food products (-2.5%), and non-food (-1%). Even in the middle of the quarter from May to July 2014, the index decreased compared to the previous quarter (-0.5%). Istat remember that the index of retail sales is based on the current value, which includes the dynamics of both the quantity and price. And in July 2014, inflation remained low, at 0.1%. In the first seven months of 2014, the raw index of the total value of sales continues to decline (-1.1%) compared to the same period of 2013, a negative variation of the same amount (-1.1%) was recorded both for sales of food products and for those of non-food products.
