Carrefour closes the hypermarkets of Trofarello and Borgomanero – The Republic

The announcement came Friday, in the last few minutes of a meeting with the trade unions, in which Carrefour was telling of a situation that is not simple, but neither is dramatic: there are 500 redundant workers in Italy and will be closed two hypermarkets in the Piedmont Trofarello and in Borgomanero, and one in Campania, Pontecagnano.

The reason? It sells a little, the cost of labour is too high, and then it no longer makes sense to keep open those stores. At least, so explained the manager of the French multinational company to the unions. “We immediately started the mobilisation, because the communication of the company comes after the many sacrifices already made by the workers to reduce the time and to make possible the openings for 24 hours”, attacks Marinella Migliorini, secretary of the Filcams – Cgil in Piedmont.

The Carrefour Trofarello employs seventy employees related to Borgomanero has a population instead of 45 direct staff that rise up to about 100 with the indirect ones. There are, however, bad news for all the employees in Carrefour: “Have been prepaid by the company, a series of organizational requirements that would imply an extra

and severe worsening of work conditions”, they say Fisascat – Cisl, Filcams-Cgil and Uiltucs – Uil. And explain that the firm has highlighted “significant issues on business performance”, or on “sales, labour costs and profitability. Hypermarkets are particularly penalised”. The unions have already announced a strike between Friday and Saturday, and that will be defined in the coming days.
