Industry, Istat: production down 1% in June – The Messenger

It contracts in June, the Italian industrial production after the rebound scored in May. Balza however car production. According to Istat, the seasonally adjusted index of industrial activity fell by 1.1% from the previous month. In late July, Confindustria had estimated a more modest decline in production. On an annual basis the company recorded a drop of 0.3% (+ 2.9% the raw data, taking into account that the working days were 21 against 20 June 2014).

In the middle of the quarter April -June production increased by 0.4% from the previous quarter while the average of the first six months of the year the increase was 0.4%.

Changes in economic negative in all groups , especially capital goods, energy, consumer goods and intermediate goods. In trend terms there is a rather large increase in the area of capital goods. As for the economic sector, in June 2015 the sectors that registered the greatest growth trend are those from the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, manufacture of transport equipment and manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations. The largest decreases are recorded instead in the areas of mining, metallurgy and manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment and other manufacturing, repair and installation of machinery and equipment.

In the first half salt instead of 2015 production of cars, increased by 44.2%, the best half-year growth since the beginning of the series, in 1990. Also in June there had increased to double digits (+ 45%). The data on car registrations, published earlier this week by the Ministry of Transport, noted that in the first seven months of the sale of new motor vehicles rose by 15.2% with more than 1 million cars.

“We must not be too hasty in drawing implications from today’s numbers: many factors suggest that the underlying trend is shooting – said Luca Mezzomo, head of Macroeconomic Analysis Intesa Sanpaolo -. As noted by Istat, moreover, June was a very mild month for industrial production due to the national holiday of 2 June, which this year fell on Tuesday: the ‘bridge’ holiday could have caused the closure of factories enough to frustrate the rebound of production ‘raw’ expected in June. If this interpretation is correct, we should expect a strong rebound in industrial production in July. However, the month of July should be helped by the growth of electricity consumption, supported by climate significantly warmer than the seasonal norm. “
