In April, after two months of increase, the unemployment rate fell to 0.2 percentage points, reaching 12.4 percent. This was announced by the Mayor, noting that the unemployed decreased on a monthly basis by 1.2% (-40 thousand). In the twelve months the number of unemployed decreased by 0.5% (-17 million) and the unemployment rate by 0.2 points. In the first quarter, the unemployment rate increased continuously since the third quarter of 2011, fell to 13 percent.

Youth unemployment down 1.6 percentage points

In trend terms, compared to April 2014, Istat noted on the one hand an increase in the number of young people in employment (+ 4.1%, amounting to 37 thousand more), and a drop in unemployment (-5.5%, or to -38mila) and inactive (-0.7% to -32mila).

In the first quarter of 2015, people seeking employment are 3.3 million, down, on a trend basis, to 145,000 units (-4.2%), after fourteen quarters of uninterrupted growth.
