The European market back to pre-crisis levels, driven by a May rewriting: compared to a year ago, registrations in the European Union and the EFTA countries have been 1,330,599, for an increase of 15.5 %. For the Old Continent is the 33 th consecutive month of growth: according ACEA, in fact, the very positive data show the clock to the levels of May 2008.
The race of ‘Italy. Among the markets that have outperformed the stand Italy (187,631 registrations, + 27.3%), France (175,831, + 22.3%), Spain (113 671, +20 , 9%) and Germany (286,931, + 11.9%). The increase was more modest in the UK, where sales have stopped to share 203 585 (+2.5%).
Double-digit growth. The May data push registrations so far this year to 6.4 million units, for a growth of 9.9%. The undisputed marathon the first five months of 2016 was Italy (875,778 sales, + 20.5%), followed by Spain (499,444, + 12.5%) and France (875,076, + 10.5%), all in double figures. Less brilliant, but still growing, were Germany (1,394,276 units, + 6.8%) and the UK (1,164,870, + 4.1%). For 2016 as a whole, the association of European manufacturers projected to grow by 5%.
Flywheel FCA and Renault. The month of May has recorded positive figures for virtually all carmakers: in particular, among the great builders emerge the excellent performance of FCA and Renault. The group led by Sergio Marchionne has issued a real leap, selling 96,692 units, a growth of 25.7% and a market share growing from 6.9 to 7.5%. Among the brands, Fiat has registered 73,775 cars (+ 27.2%, 5.7% share), Jeep 9,501 (+ 31.4%, 0.7% share), Lancia 7,488 (+ 31.9% share of 0.6%), while Alfa Romeo presents a negative figure with 5,401 registrations (-1.6%, 0.4% share). The other protagonist of May is the Renault group: the French have sold 137,102 units (+ 28.7%), increasing its share from 9.6 to 10.6%.
Germans. The Volkswagen Group recorded a growth in registrations (309,708, + 9.3%), losing market share (from 25.5% at 24). very positive results for the Audi (73,009 cars, up 21.1%, 5.7% share) and Skoda (56,483, + 15.3% and 4.4% share), while Volkswagen sold 143,303 units (+ 4.1%, 11.1%). Stable Porsche (6,216, + 6.1%, share of 0.5%) and Seat (30,367 vehicles, + 0.1%, 2.4% share). Among the premium manufacturers, there is the excellent performance of the BMW Group, which grew by 21.2% with 84,222 total cars (share from 6.3 to 6.5%) of which 66,826 with BMW brand (+ 22.5% , share of 5.2%) and 17,396 Mini (+ 16.5%, 1.4% share). Finally Daimler Stuttgart has registered 77,007 cars (+ 14.3% stake from 6.1 to 6%), of which 67,143 Mercedes-Benz (+ 14.9%, 5.2% share) and 9,864 Smart (+ 10.6%, 0.8% share).
