does not stop, indeed continues on its way, the aging of the Italian population. Italians are more and more old and, the other confirms, more and fewer children are born. The ISTAT figures on population indices for 2015 offer us many confirmations, and yet also a couple of novelties, which will be discussed by scholars. For the first time since World War II, the mortality rate is 10.7 per thousand, the highest in the last seventy years. At the same time, also slows the progress so far always positive in life: life expectancy at birth decreases, although very little: for men is 80.1 years (it was 80.3 in 2014), for women 84.7 (85 a year ago).
the resident population
in 2015, the population living in Italy decreased by 139,000 persons ( -2.3 per thousand). At January 1, 2016 the residents are 60 million 656 thousand. Foreigners grow instead of 39,000. In total, foreigners resident in Italy are 5 million and 54 thousand and represented 8.3 percent of the total population. The Italian citizenship population then falls to 55 million 600 thousand, and lost 179,000 residents. The net migration with foreign countries is 128 000, corresponding to a rate of 2.1 per thousand. This is because there have been 273,000 registrations and 145,000 cancellations, consequently net migration accounts for a quarter of that achieved in 2007, which was the year of record high for international migration. From abroad of foreign enrollments were 245,000 and 28,000 indents at home of Italian. The cancellations to abroad concerning foreign and 100,000 Italian 45,000.
Old and children
in 2015 does not stop, says Istat, the aging process, absolute and relative. Over sixty are 13.4 million, 22 percent of the total. Decreases both the working age population (15-64 years), is that up to 14 years. The first drops to 39 million, and 64.3 per cent of the Italian population, children under 14 are 8.3 million children and accounts for 13.7 percent. The natural increase (difference between births and deaths) still falls at -165 thousand. According to Istat data, then, it appears that 2015 is the fifth consecutive year of reduction of fertility, we are now at 1.35 children per woman. The average age of women at birth increased to 31.6 years.
The deaths in 2015 were 653,000, 54,000 more than in 2014, with a 9.1 percent increase while, as mentioned, the death rate in the 20,125 to 10.7 per thousand, is the highest among those measured from World war II onwards. The deaths were concentrated in the older segments of the population (75-95 years). The statement Istat explains this innovation: “From the demographic point of view, the peak mortality of 2015 is partly due to structural effects associated with aging and in part to the postponement of non deaths occurred in 2013-2014 biennium, more conducive to survival. “
internal migration
They keep domestic migration to the country, from south to north. It is true that the transfer of residence within national borders come down, after 12 years, under the maximum level reached then the million and 300 thousand, a decrease of 3 per cent on 2014. But what about transfers between municipalities, it is confirmed a positive internal migration balance for the northern regions (0.9 per thousand inhabitants) and Centre (+0.6) and negative for those in the South (-2.5).
