Italy will provide the weapons to Kurdish fighters to confront the militias Isis. The Foreign Affairs and Defence Committees of the House and Senate, meeting in special session, listened to the disclosure of ministers Roberta Pinotti and Federica Mogherini, voted the resolutions of the respective presidents to allow the go-ahead to the operation on the day on which the prime minister is Renzi flew to Baghdad, to ensure that “Italy and the EU will not turn their backs in front of the massacres.” Favorable 27 senators and 56 deputies, including Forza Italy. Opposites 16 parliamentarians in all, including five stars and Sel, while the League has not participated in the vote and chose to hold a parallel meeting in Palazzo Montecitorio open for the occasion.
“It was not necessary to a vote, but the government still wanted this parliamentary passage, “emphasized the minister Pinotti, who with colleague Foreign explained to the Commissions’ the government’s commitment over three floors, crafted with European and international partners.” It revealed that “he was also involved the Vatican, which has already started thanks to the urgent humanitarian aid.” Already six flights have landed in Iraq with the first aid.

In the end, the involvement of members of the two committees, recalled from vacation and gathered in the hall of the Queen of the House, has been more than satisfactory, considering that there were a hundred deputies and senators out of a total of 138 and the Minister of Defense, Roberta Pinotti, strongly emphasized “the active and positive involvement of Parliament.”
At the end of the debate, there are three resolutions on the emergency Iraq. The first, written by the presidents of the four committees, support the government’s position, “including sending weapons to the Kurds demonstrating that Italy supports their fight against the terrorists with the facts, not just words,” noted Pier Ferdinando Casini. Five stars and Sel, however, have two resolutions in which, separately, are opposed to this line, and say they support only the opening of humanitarian corridors.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs Mogherini justified the Italian initiative and the EU, given the seriousness of the situation in Iraq, which requires “immediate action.” However, he admitted that “military aid are essential at the moment, but are unlikely to represent a long-term solution to the crisis.” To this, he added, “it is necessary to develop a long-term strategy aimed at pacification of” recalling that the Isis “is a” threat to Europe and the whole world. “
ONLY ARMS
Then, he pointed out that “even Italy is not immune,” as evidenced by the warning from the Department of Public Safety on sensitive targets, embassies, railway stations, ports, airports, places of worship. The focus is high, even if there are threats aimed at Isis.
The Minister of Defense, Roberta Pinotti, has instead provided information on military equipment to be sent to Iraq, stating that “Italy will only light weapons and, in any case, expect precise and detailed requests from the Kurdish Peshmerga.” The transaction will therefore not be as immediate as it was believed, because larger states Italians will have to coordinate with European partners participating in the initiative to determine which and how many media military must send each country.
