Work still stalled in January. According to the preliminary estimate widespread today by ISTAT in the first month of the year the unemployment rate was 11.5%, virtually unchanged from August, the synthesis of a decline among men and an increase among women . The level was 11.6% in December 2015, but the percentage change on the month does not reach the tenth of a point. The unemployment rate of 15-24 (the share of young unemployed on the total of those active, employed and unemployed), was instead equal to 39.3%, up 0.7% on the previous month.

the increase in the youth unemployment rate – explain to ISTAT – is due to a decrease in employment of 31 thousand units in the month, while the unemployed fell by 4 thousand units. On a trend basis, the variation of the employed is -7mila and that of -47mila unemployed: the unemployment rate shows a decline of 1.6 points. From the calculation of the unemployment rate are excluded young people inactive (neither employed nor looking for work because they engaged in studies). The percentage of unemployed young people from 15 to 24 in the total of young people of the same age group is 10% (a young man of 10 is unemployed), slightly down (-0.1 points) compared to December. Last month falls between aged 15-24 the employment rate (-0.5 points) and grows the inactivity rate (+0.6 points).

In decrease employees completed
After the decline in December (-0.2%), in January 2016 the employed increased by 70 thousand units (+0.3 %) of December 2015 back to the level of August and 299,000 over January 2015 (+ 1.3%). The growth is determined by the permanent employees (+ 99 thousand over December, + 426mila on 2015) while those fall term (-28mila) and independents remain broadly stable. The increase in employment relates to both men and women. The employment rate, at 56.8%, increasing by 0.1 percentage points from the previous month: This is the level more ‘high from May 2012. January 2016 is also the first month of contribution relief to 40% after a year of total relief for stable employment.

Less inactive (-63mila) especially among 50-64enni
in January, the estimate of the inactive (people who although working age remain out of the market) between 15 and 64 indicated by the Institute of statistics has decreased by 1.7% over January 2015, and by 0.4% (-63 thousand) of December 2015 with a decrease of 209 thousand unit. The decline is determined by the female component and mainly affects people between 50 and 64 years. The inactivity rate drops to 35.7% (-0.1 percentage points). The figure is due in all probability mainly to the close access to the board that keeps people longer to work but it is likely that there is also a reduction of discouragement or mistrust on the possibility of finding a job.

Furlan (CISL): monetary policy is not enough to change fiscal compact
For Anna Maria Furlan general secretary of Cisl, interviewed this morning on La7, the latest data Istat on ‘ employment demonstrate that monetary policy “is not enough” and that it takes “a radical change in economic policy and Europe ‘, with a change of the Fiscal compact which” has had its day. ” In this framework, Furlan has praised the government’s action “to change the economic policy in Europe: there is little to negotiate a few thousandths of flexibility, we must change the economic status of Europe because the fiscal compact with deflation creates the situation that we see ». Then there is “the theme of investment,” said Furlan and the tax issue to help the consumer to share with payroll and heavier pension.
