TLC: ultra-wideband Enel, Telecom I. corner (Rep) – BBC

08:58 ROME (Dow Jones) – The Government entrusted the keys of the Enel project on ultra-wideband, while Telecom Italy is cornered. The Republic writes, explaining that the objective and ‘return to public control of the major infrastructure networks of telecommunications, beginning with the future of ultra-wideband. For the Government the plan earmarks 6.5 billion over five years to the optical fiber is turning into a great opportunity to reaffirm the role of the state in “telematics strategic highways” through Enel. By May, in fact, the government, must ‘determine mode’ and quantification of incentives to block the new network. Enel, in the assessments of the Chigi Palace, has the potential to become the best candidate to accelerate the band generation. A choice with a consequence: marginalize the existing network of private entity Telecom Italy. In the report of the executive, it is emphasized that Enel can already ‘count on a branching capillary. It has formally declared to the authorities’ competent availability ‘to engage with a project at very short: three years to reach the whole of Italy by sending so’ in the attic the old copper infrastructure and without demanding a role in the management of the service. Ie without distorting competition. In the ideas of the executive, it is a first step to an overall restructuring of the telecommunications sector that include ‘also networks for broadcasting, starting with the antennas, with the objective of maintaining control by the state of the system infrastructure, not the operators. vs (end) AFX NEWS 1108: 57 May 2015
