The Navy raises investment in a geostrategic context that sees the commitments of armed force grow more to patrol the seas with the emergence of refugees and the need to ensure safety on the main trade routes and anti-piracy actions.

As emphasized a joint statement, Fincantieri and Finmeccanica will realize the unity in the plan of renovation of the Navy: The order involves the construction of six patrol boats with four additional optional units and a logistics support for approximately 3.5 billion euro. Of the 3.5 billion worth of contracts for the fleet, the share Fincantieri is about 2.3 billion, that of Finmeccanica of about 1.2 billion. In detail, the contract – under the plan for renewal of the military fleet – has been signed by OCCAR (Organisation de cooperation Conjointe sur l’armement, the international organization for cooperation on arms), in which the Navy is represented at the highest level, who signed the order with the temporary joint venture formed between Fincantieri (agent) and Finmeccanica (principal through Selex Ex).

The contracts provide for different stages of activation and OCCAR today launched the Phase 1 on the activities in preparation for the construction of the first multipurpose offshore patrol unit and logistic support, for a total value of 372 million , of which the share Fincantieri is equal to 220 million and that of Finmeccanica is equal to 152 million. The activation of the next steps relating to other units is expected in the coming months.
The multi-annual program for the renewal of the fleet of the Navy uses a total funding of 5.4 billion, and also includes the construction of a ‘transport units and landing, to increase and improve the ability priettiva from the sea, through the form of a public contract with the administration of the Italian Defense, whose finalization is in progress.
